QCIHungary also supported the QHungary World Quantum Day Meetup

2024.04.22. /Posted bydr. Kádárné Kelemen Ildikó

This year’s World Quantum Day Hungarian Meetup was held at Nokia Skypark on April 12th, organized by the QHungary Group. The aim of this worldwide initiative is to talk about current issues in quantum mechanics and technology in an accessible way. The chosen date refers to Planck’s constant, a fundamental constant in quantum mechanics, which has a rounded value of 4.14, the energy of a 1Hz photon.

Lóránt Farkas of Nokia Bell Labs welcomed the participants, followed by Zoltán Zimborás (HUN-REN Wigner FK), who chaired the technical programme. The QCIHungary project was represented by Orsolya Kálmán (HUN-REN Wigner FK), one of the organisers, and Eszter Gerhátné Udvary, speaker from BME Budapest Technical University. In her presentation she described the types of quantum random number generators and the related activities of the Quantum Communication Research Group at BME. She also spoke about the classification of randomness, which was related to the previous talk “Quantum number sequences: more random than random, more secret than secret?” by Kriváchy Tamás (ICFO, Barcelona). Róbert Trényi’s (UPV/EHU Bilbao, HUN-REN Wigner FK) presentation “How to encrypt using entanglement?” was closely related to the tasks to be solved by the QCIHungary project.

The evening continued with 4 lectures in the field of quantum computing and technologies by János Asbóth (BME, HUN-REN Wigner FK), Viktor Ivády (ELTE), Szabolcs Csonka (BME) and Zsófia Kallus (Ericsson Hungary).
