The European Commission has announced the opening of new funds for quantum technologies

2024.05.22. /Posted byQCI Hungary

The European Commission (EC) announced the opening of calls for proposals under Horizon Europe’s 2023-2024 digital, industrial, and space work program, focusing on research and innovation in Artificial Intelligence and quantum technologies.

The Commission plans to invest €112 million in these two major fields. Out of this, the EC will invest €40 million to advance research into leading-edge quantum technologies. This includes €25 million for the establishment of a pan-European network of quantum gravimeters, which are crucial for high-precision gravity measurements in sectors such as Earth observation and civil engineering. An additional €15 million will go towards transnational research and development projects in next-generation quantum technologies, aiming to maintain the EU’s leadership in global quantum technology.

These resources will increasingly integrate quantum technology into the mainstream of research and development (R&D) in Europe. Continuous funding of this area may provide an opportunity to sustain the outcomes of the EuroQCI and PETRUS projects, establishing a solid foundation for future quantum projects.
