A professional meeting was conducted by experts of the QCIHungary project

2023.06.16. /Posted byQCI Hungary

In June 2023, the experts of the QCIHungary project conducted a professional meeting at the Wigner Research Centre for Physics.

Due to the advancement of research in quantum technology and quantum communication, the European Union has prioritised the broader application and practical testing of quantum technologies. The institutions of the Quantum Information National Laboratory Hungary in collaboration with the Governmental Agency for IT Development (KIFÜ) successfully applied to the Digital Europe “EU secure Quantum Communication Infrastructure” (DIGITAL-2021-QCI-01) call. The winning proposal named QCIHungary is led by KIFÜ.

During the first extensive and professional meeting, the consortium partners presented their institutions and the tasks of their dedicated working groups within the quantum communication project. The main goal of the proposal is to establish the basic elements of a future Hungarian Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) communication network, and contributing to the creation of a larger pan-European quantum network. Another important goal of the project is the development and implementation of training materials and events, including the development of methodologies targeting various user groups, course materials, and a simulation software. The project actively engages in international cooperation with neighbouring and other EU member states, facilitating knowledge exchange and coordination of future plans.

At the event, Dr. Péter Lévai, Director-General of the Wigner Research Centre for Physics, greeted the participants, followed by a presentation summarizing the professional goals of QCIHungary presented by Dr. Sándor Imre, University Professor and Head of the Department of Networked Systems and Services at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics. During the meeting, the consortium members – KIFÜ, BME, Wigner Research Centre for Physics, Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) – and one of the project’s associated partners, Magyar Telekom Nyrt., also introduced themselves.
